The jack russell terrier breed is not a common find in rescues and rescue situations.
They cannot tolerate rough playing and may injure children or hunt small pets, such as guinea pigs, cats and others. They cannot be kept in an apartment (except for “shorties,” which originated as home pets) and require a large fenced yard and daily walks.

These dogs were designed specially for fox hunting in the 19th century and were also used to kill rodents and polecats on the farms. They can also be good guardians and family companions, but being natural hunters these small animals should be handled with care. The jack russell terrier breed is not a common find in rescues and rescue situations.
